Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our “star” badge and the standards it represents. We created the Crisp Certified™ program because we felt that it was about time parents had a genuinely useful frame of reference to help them decide which online communities their children would be safe using. Any online community carrying our “star” badge has agreed to adopt the principles given below as a framework for protecting children from online abuse. At Crisp we’ve dedicated ourselves to developing the best ways to do just this and as we come across or generate new ideas we will update these principles so that they continue to represent the best practice for online child protection.
The online community has a “Child Protection” policy which Crisp have seen and believe is fit for this purpose. This policy includes the online community’s willingness (where legally possible) to pass appropriate material evidence to the relevant authorities when they believe criminal behaviour against a child has taken place on their site
The online community has a “Code of Conduct” which governs what kinds of behaviour and activity is unacceptable whilst using the service and outlines what action will be taken against anyone who breaches these rules.
The online community’s moderation team use Crisp’s NetModerator™ system to protect children from online predators by scanning every conversation that takes place on the site. Any suspicious or potentially dangerous behaviour is drawn to the attention of the moderation team by NetModerator so that they can take the most appropriate action to keep children safe
The online community has made a commitment to ensure that its moderation team investigates and documents the outcome of any “Red Alert”* case sent to them by Crisp.
All members of the online community’s human moderation team have been submitted for the highest level of security vetting available to that online community’s in their country of origin+
Crisp will periodically test that all of these standards are being adhered to and reserves the right to remove the “star” badge from any online community that is found to be non-compliant
All of this means that when you see the “Crisp Certified” star badge on an online community you can be confident that it is taking the best available precautions to protect your child from predators and cyber bullies.

* A “Red Alert” is defined as “conversation content which indicates a high probability that a child has become involved in a potentially dangerous online relationship”
+ In the UK this means that each member of the moderation team has passed an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure. If a web site outsources their moderation work to an external agency, then the agency involved has carried out the appropriate checks
